Experiential Internships as a pathway to career start:
Internships at Northern are critical to building the talent pipeline. The organization considers it as an opportunity to engage with next generation talent. These internships are well-planned investment of time and effort that generate experiential learning journeys i.e. learning by doing for the interns. Emphasis is placed on mentoring as a tool to hone professional skills, exposure to critical business skills, and planned allocation of real-time projects. This in-turn translates to careful selection of the assignments for interns and curated learning journey for all round development.
This is a story about IT interns who went on to become our employees in a span of 6 months.
The onboarding stage included technical deep dive sessions, introduction to product verticals, interaction with seasoned functional experts and continuous check-in from HR.
As they anchored themselves, mentoring transformed into meaningful conversations around establishing a supportive work environment, understanding their areas of interest, and having a full plan for project delivery.
Crossing this stage, they were assigned a strategic Product Mobile App project that was need-of-the hour for the organization. Technologies such as IOT, Product engineering, Azure and Devops practices were part of their learning. Data as a service offering was the primary objective, to gain better understanding they began to interact with senior global leaders. Additionally, they were equipped with access to tools such as Figma, Azure IoT Hub, Azure Stream Analytics, Apache Kafka. Working along with their mentor to navigate through complex scenarios, they developed an app which got featured in a customer pitch. This app has enabled end-users to remotely monitor and control their NTE products. The first NTE product with connectivity will be a portable generator with Bluetooth.
This gave a direct glimpse into the real-world impact of their contributions and allowed them to realize their full potential. At our core, learning for these interns is not just a priority but a fundamental value ingrained in everything they did. Our learning framework is meticulously crafted to drive continuous learning & engagement at work.
