Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) celebrated their 50th Anniversary this year in a unique way, with their core strength – the employees – taking the centre stage. TCS large, diverse workforce came together to walk 3 Billion Steps in one week, in an expression of energy, strength, togetherness and fitness-focus.
TCS witnessed phenomenal growth in Hyderabad over the last 10 years, growing from a 4000 to a 43,000+ employee organization, with significant growth in revenue, infrastructure, service portfolio, research and product focus. Today, TCS Hyderabad (TCSH) serves over 450 global customers and contributes to about 10% of the state’s IT exports.
A pioneer in leveraging ICT to improve the quality of life of citizens, TCSH partnered with government to create platforms like TSOnline/APOnline, NREGS for rural employment, SERP for women empowerment, that have transformed the way government interacts with citizens, Tsunami Early Warning System, and ICT solutions for Panchayat Raj Engineering Department of Telangana, Sthree Nidhi, RTC, State Police Department and citizen Pension Management. TCSH also transformed the public examination landscape in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh through digitization.
With significant investments in infrastructure, TCS has enhanced business and employment opportunities in the region. TCSH has partnered with trade delegations from other countries to enhance industry growth in the region. The Kohli Center of Intelligent Systems was established at IIIT Hyderabad to give a fillip to research, teaching and entrepreneurship. Today, TCSH also works with over 60 Engineering colleges to improve the employability of students and faculty development.
Consistent and continued focus on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives has helped TCSH make a big difference to Education, Health, Safety and Environment. The Computer Based Functional Literacy, a path-breaking software that aids adult literacy, has helped over 8 lakh adults in India and other developing nations so far, to become literate. For this solution, TCS was conferred the Global CSR Excellence and Leadership Award, Kofi Annan International Award for Excellence, and this case study was published by United Nations – Global Compact Network India in their compendium. For their support to children suffering from Thalassemia, TCSH was presented with the Indian Red Cross Awardon International Blood Donors Day this year.
