Designing the Internet of Things by Mr. Syam Madanapalli, Director – IoT at NTT Data Services

It is predicted that by the year 2025, over 50 billion ‘Things’ will be over the Internet, called the Internet of Things ( IoT) that transform businesses and society for better agility, increased productivity, improved customer experience, greater comfort, reduced costs and optimal use of natural resources.

The 11th workshop as part of the TechSeries@HYSEA organised on 8th Feb 2019 took an unique approach of learning through basics, examples and by doing exercises. It was aimed at all stakeholders in the industry,  all verticals and for all levels of practitioners. The workshop covered the need for the things to be connected over the Internet and how the Internet is evolving to accommodate the connectivity for billions to trillions of devices and objects, and how these things seamlessly interact with people. The definition and characteristics of the Internet of Things were discussed. A basic introduction to the access ( IEEE 802.15.4, IEEE 802.11,Bluetooth low energy, LPWAN) and networking ( IPv6, 6LoWPAN, CoAP, Security considerations) technologies for realizing the IoT networks was given.

Mr. Syam Madanapalli, Director – IoT at NTT Data Services facilitated this day long session attended by more than 40 technologists from member companies. Syam who is Chair of IEEE P1931, Roof Computing WG, Member of IoT Security Task Force, IoT Forum – India, Executive committee member of IEEE Bangalore chapter,Member of IEEE Smart Cities Standards Subcommittee, Member of Technology Working Group at NASSCOM’s CoE for IoT, Technology board member at IPv6 Forum, India, and Member of IEEE SA – SIG is considered an authority on the subject. He alsobuilds teams and guides them to create IoT solutions for the enterprises by leveraging the internal and partner solutions. He architects, innovates, designs, plans and executes the delivery of digital solutions that solve the customer pain points.
