21st November, 2017 Hyderabad: HYSEA, Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association and International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH), held the first workshop on “Demystifying Machine Learning” as part of the ‘TechSeries@HYSEA’ workshop at IIIT Hyderabad, on 21st Nov 2017.

The workshop was conducted under the guidance of organizing chair Prof Ramesh Loganathan Professor Co-Innovation, IIIT Hyderabad (formerly, MD Progress Software India and President of HYSEA). Earlier Director, IIIT-H, Prof P J Narayanan welcomed the participants and set the context for the workshop. The objective of the workshop he said was to increase the awareness about Machine Learning and to explore the emerging Industry use cases in this technology. The workshop also aimed to encourage faculty members and students of IIIT-H in developing research interest in the area. It is also part of the larger effort by HYSEA and IIIT-H towards helping engineers and mid-level managers in the industry stay abreast with technology and relevant research in collaboration with the academia.

Delivering the Keynote address, Prof C.V Jawahar, Head of Machine Learning lab at IIITH said, “while superior machine learning algorithms/deep Learning, faster systems with GPUs that accelerate deep learning, analytics, and engineering applications, New sensor technologies and IO devices will aid in adoption of AI and Machine Learning”. The Challenge will be to extract knowledge from human experts, he said. The event saw participation from over 225 industry & academic individuals. The participants expressed the opinion that the talks and sessions were very useful for them in improving domain knowledge and providing research direction. In addition, they were happy to connect to experts for future collaborations. The workshop saw Keynote addresses, invited talks by the experts from industry & academia.
